International School Award
Miss Ormerod and Mrs Fay were invited to Newcastle to be presented with our 4th British Council International School Award!
This prestigious award is only made to schools who show an ongoing International ethos. Bowburn Infant and Nursery School have a long term partner school, Gladstone Academy in Thimi, Nepal, and collaborating with this school played a huge part in being awarded the ISA again.
Russian Exchange teacher in school
We were very lucky to be asked to host a Russian teacher for a week. Karina Skorik, from School 39 in Kostroma, came as part of an exchange programme organised by DCC International Office.
Karina stayed with Mrs Fay and her husband during her stay to experience life in an English home. While their, Karina enjoyed trying many new foods such as Yorkshire Pudding, black pudding, crumpets, Shepherd’s Pie and toasted muffins, to name just a few!
Each class in school welcomed Karina and the children enjoyed many of the activities she had prepared from listening to traditional Russian tales and acting them out dressed in Russian costumes, learing simple Russian words and writing the complicated Russian alphabet! Great fun was had when trying to copy some Russian Cossack dancing!
The group of Russian teachers spent a day in Edinburgh and Karina’s last day was spent with Mr and Mrs Fay at South Shields. As Karina lives 6 hours from the nearest coast. she was very excited to see the sea and beach. No visit to the seaside is complete without fish and chips and ice cream!
We hope to welcome Karina back here in the future.
We are proud to announce our application for our 4th International School Award has been successful!

Ilze and Daila, teachers from Prikulu, Cesis in Latvia, have been in school this week as part of their Erasmus Plus project.
We had a partnership four years ago with this Latvian school during a Comenius Project and we have maintained contact. When Prikulu needed schools to participate in their job shadowing project, we were more than willing to welcome them back to Bowburn.
