Thanks to the generous funding from the British Council, Mrs Fay was able to make a visit to our partner school, Gokhale Memorial Girls School in Kolkata, India.
After two long flights, via Dubai, Mrs Fay was met at Kolkata airport by Mrs Shirin Amerjee who visited Bowburn in September. Astounded at the heat, 28C at 9pm! Also at the noise and bustling streets! Sunday evening and everywhere was busy! Children playing, people shopping and more cars than they had ever seen before!
Monday morning started with a traditional home cooked breakfast of roti, omelettes and yoghurt before making the short trip to Gokhale Memorial Girls School. A welcome assembly was waiting for us, with songs from the children, traditional dancing, a welcome speech from the Headteacher and a myriad of flowers and gifts. After a tour of the school, it was straight to work, teaching songs and rhymes to the children in the Lower School.
